Our Three Big Initiatives
-
We maintain a national registry of Wilderness First Responders. In times of need and with informed consent, we share their information with law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency operations. We do NOT deploy teams. We do NOT perform search and rescue operations.
Imagine: a major storm or wildfire threatens the lives and habitats that we serve. Since a fire department local to that event has knowledge of our registry, they contact us to ask if we know of any WFRs nearby who might be able to help. That fire department is then able to recruit WFR-certified volunteers from our registry.
-
Our market enables community members to sell things and benefit from our marketing campaign. Community members agree to a small fee destined to support WRN and other community non-profit organizations. Purchasers can elect to add an additional donation to an organization of their choice.
Imagine: a community member sells a handmade scarf through our market for $10. The community member who made the scarf receives $9. WRN receives $1 and uses it to cover operating costs and disburse funds to affiliate non-profit organizations. An affiliate organization also receives a direct donation from the purchaser, if the purchaser elects to add a donation to their purchase.
-
We leverage technological tools for database management and data collection to help existing non-profits better collaborate with each other and meet their own goals.
Imagine: a person has a need and submits a request to any one of our affiliate organizations. Because we have agreed to collaborate, WRN automatically receives that request as well and is able to match the person in need with the organization or individual who is most able to help them.
If the organization the person first contacts is unable to help them, their original request can still lead them to a solution since WRN will step in to help.
Note: if you are here to report a serious emergency, please contact 911. We do not perform search and rescue and we do not deploy emergency personnel.
About Us
When one of our founders began helping official law enforcement in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, she recognized that serious barriers to communication and collaboration were preventing people from being able to make their greatest possible positive impact.
She also realized that there were a lot of people who were willing to help, but that they needed a trustworthy, safe way to offer their aid. She knew that there were other ways that the outdoor community could strengthen itself through communication and collaboration.
She was joined by other people with a fierce drive to help others. We are a team of helpful, dedicated, competent professionals who love the outdoors and the people in it.
We’re helping the helpers!
